Daily Matchups for 4/5/2017

Value/Sleeper Pitchers:

Ian Kennedy- I think this will be a name that goes under the radar on a full slate of games. He gets to face a Twins team that really hasn’t improved that much from last year when they were horrible. Kennedy has faced 91 Ray’s batters and given up only 22 hits which comes to a .242 BA. Kennedy isn’t a sexy name by any means but he has a 25.2 K% and only a 7.8 BB% while only giving up 5 HRs to go along with 26 strikeouts. He could be the sneaky yet effective tournament option.

John Lackey- This is a more riskier play than others on the slate because of Lackey’s age and so many miles on his arm. He’s facing the Cub’s foe, his old team, the Cardinals. He’s seen them a lot to the tune of 139 ABs and in those he’s only given up 31 hits for a .223 BA. Lackey has struck out 35 batters with a 23 K% and only given up 2 HRs.

J.A. Happ- This one might be a little surprising for you but people will probably be off of Happ since he’s going up against a semi-potent offense in the Orioles. Oddly enough, Happ has held them to 32 hits in 149 ABs (.215 BA) with a 29.2 K% and only a 6.2 BB%. He has 47 strikeouts while giving up 6 HRs and could be that middle-tier priced pitcher you need to take down a GPP.

Michael Pineda- Strickly a GPP play here if he has his strikeout pitches working. He’s given up 50 hits in 124 ABs (.323 BA) with 36 Ks and 8 HRs. Really contrarian here and you’ll have to get really lucky, but his ownership should be under 10%.

Other Pitchers: Brandon Finnegan, Jameson Taillon, Charlie Morton, Taijuan Walker, Jharel Cotton

Top BvP Plays:

Adrian Gonzalez vs. Trevor Cahill- Cahill has been around a while and A-Gon has had his number. In 30 ABs he has 12 hits (.400 BA) including 6 singles, 3 doubles, and 3 HRs but also 8 Ks so he might be only a GPP option for you tonight.

Anthony Rizzo vs. Lance Lynn- Rizzo is just an all-around great guy on and off the field and he’s had a great track record against Lynn. In 29 ABs Rizzo has 10 hits (.345 BA) including 5 singles, 3 doubles, 2 HRs.

Steven Souza Jr vs. Michael Pineda- Souza has absolutely dominated Pineda with 9 hits in 19 ABs with 2 singles, 3 doubles, and 4 HRs. He’s cheap and should be slotted in the Ray’s lineup.

Teams To Stack:

White Sox- hitting .343 against Jordan Zimmerman

Rockies- hitting .282 against Wily Peralta

Tigers- hitting .286 against James Shields and it’s James Shields.
